Castilla - La Mancha has become one of the first Regions on delivering Social
Services and Benefits in Spain. The Regional Government has created a
solidarity network around the public system of social services in order to help
families and citizens that live in poverty conditions.
In this area, four objectives are pursued::

Attention to the childhood: There is a network of quality public places that
offers an integral attention to more than 37% under 3 years old population.
This rate is one of the highest ones in Spain (data from 2004 annual report by
Ministry for Social Welfare. Moreover, there are around 500 places for those
teenagers who can not live with their families due to different
circumstances.
Trying to get the conciliation between personal and professional life, there
are 136 recreational places which offer different kind of educative and playful
activities after school schedule

Attention to elderly: Castilla- La Mancha is the region of Spain in which the
elderly have the best Social Services covering, as INSERSO report: "Las
personas mayores 2.004" assures.
Castilla - La Mancha offers one of the largest networks of residential public
places in Spain. It means more than 6.300 available places for the elderly.
Moreover, Castilla - La Mancha has increased the resources for implementing
special actions oriented to Day Centres, Monitored Homes and special programmes
like "Home Aid" and Telephone Assistance for elderly people.

Attention to handicapped people: There are 78 residential centres for
handicapped people in the Region. In those centres are assisted more than 1.400
persons.
The main objective of Castilla - La Mancha policies concerning to handicapped
people is to get their total integration. For achieving this objective, there
is a network of Occupational Centres and Day Classroom which can be used for
more than 2.500 handicapped persons.
The Special Training Centres, that help to acquire the necessary training for
developing labour activities, are monitored by the Regional Ministry for
Labour. Nowadays, Castilla - La Mancha offers more than 70 centres, in which
there are 1.378 handicapped employees.
In addition, through the implementation of the law: "Ley de Acceso a la Función
Pública" which warrantees the access of handicapped people for working in the
Public Administration, 44 handicapped persons have found a job in the Regional
Administration.

Attention to immigrants, non-residents, refugees and ethnic minorities: As a
consequence of the social exclusion suffered by these groups of people, it has
been decided to develop projects that have two different aims. The first aim is
to inform and to give advises. The second one is to provide food, clothes,
accommodation and health care. These projects try to promote equal treatment,
tolerance, ethnic and social culture diversification and the peaceful
coexistence through the training, social and labour integration of these
groups.
